...a cycle of three choral pieces...
SONGS OF ADORATION is
a cycle of three choral pieces that are warmly compelling ("In
The Shadow Of Thy Wings"), intimate and tender ("Jesus,
The Very Thought Of
Thee"),
and startling and ethereal ("A
Song To The Lamb").
"In The Shadow Of Thy Wings"
(Psalm 63) is a quiet and introspective setting of Psalm 63. The
flute part and organ accompaniment gently frame this comforting
portion of scripture.
"Jesus, The Very Thought
Of Thee"
(Bernard of Clairvaux) is an intimate, loving portrait of affection
and adoration. Based on the famous text written by Bernard of
Clairvaux ( a French monk from the Middle Ages), this well-known text
receives tender treatment set to original music.
"A Song To The Lamb"
(Revelation) concludes with an ethereal setting of the strange
visions of St. John from the book of Revelation. It powerfully builds "to
Him who sits upon the throne, and to Christ the Lamb!"
The music employs intense chromaticism, serialism, and polychordal
techniques in its attempt to convey a bizarre account of eternity.
Each movement from these SONGS
OF ADORATION
can be performed individually, but when performed all together they
provide an excellent addition to any concert! |
